Onsage Pointers is a small private kennel located in Southwest Michigan. Both my wife and I are fortunate to come from families that were involved in purebred dogs. We have bred Pointers under the Onsage banner for over 35 years.

Our goal is to consistently produce healthy and hardy dogs with good temperaments, sound conformation, and classic breed type. Our test is simple, the dogs must interact with our children and their friends without a hint of tentativeness or aggression. No excuses. We have individuals of breeds other than Pointers at the kennel that are expected to be temperament specific to their breed, but a Pointer should never be anything but friendly to those which he or she is properly introduced.

To test the conformation of the dogs, we compete in dog shows. Instinct and hunting ability is tested in the field and at licensed field events. Onsage Pointers have achieved major awards in both show and field in America, Canada, and Mexico for which we are quite proud. But the "whole dog" is more important to us than the trophies, statistics, or ribbons. We feel a strong duty to pass the breed on to the next generation in as good or better condition than when it was received.  

Our ideal puppy buyer is a one that primarily wants a lifelong companion. We do not require anyone to breed or compete with the dogs they purchase from us. We feel that if you bring a dog into your family, you have the right to make those decisions based on what is best for the dog and you.

If you are looking for a competitive show Pointer with impeccable pedigrees and credentials, we would be pleased to show you what we have available. We have achieved the highest rankings, but we never did so at the expense of the dog. While we continue to show dogs at the more prestigious events and to attain their titles, we no longer actively campaign show dogs at the rankings level. Therefore, we are very willing to sell a very good dog to the right home. With that said, if you are looking for a dog with the single priority of being ranked Number One regardless of the dog's well being, please look elsewhere.

Onsage pointers have also had success as personal hunting dogs and in the type of field events that do not require all out speed. If you are looking for a more intense field trial competitor, we recommend you instead try to find a straight field-bred prospect. The Elhew bred pointers are an excellent choice for this endeavor.

While Pointers may not be the first choice and are certainly not the most competitive in obedience and agility, Onsage Pointers have achieved several of those titles as well. We are interested in these kinds of homes for our dogs as we believe it helps the human-canine bond and find these owners are interested in our "whole dog" approach to the breed.

We are selective with our prospective buyers. We require that you have some experience with dogs, an understanding of responsible dog care, a true appreciation for the breed, and a safely fenced environment for exercise. We sell all of our dogs outright, no co-ownerships or strings.

We sold Am. and Can, Ch. Onsage Tiznow Bravura, FDJ to a family in Calgary who was looking for a house dog who could also be shown and hunted. He was Best of Winners at his first American Pointer Club National Specialty, is now a multiple Group winner in Canada,   has his FDJ field title, and is a producer of both show and field winners. But he is still, first and foremost, a companion for Tish Doyle-Morrow and her family. That is exactly how we like it at Onsage.
